What Is Autism JAM?
Who started all of this?
We really just wanted to raise some money for a cause that was close to our hearts, Autism research and awareness. Talk about the snowball effect. The plan was hatched as a backyard BBQ and BAM!, a website, a 5K, picnic, auction, sponsors, volunteers, donations, wow.
- Terri Jakubowski Fazio
- The Humanitarian
Terri came up with the idea for AutismJAM in February 2008. It was originally going to be a BBQ in the back yard. Since everyone she told about it wanted to go and bring 5 friends and their friends wanted to bring friends it grew to the point it was going to be in a park. It grew more. All of a sudden it’s a 5K race and a giant blowout fundraising foundation with volunteers and everything.
- Pete Fazio
- Web Guru
Pete has been working on the site daily. He’s proud to have flexed some of the latest programming techniques and has also been flexing his knowledge of 80s movie quotes and song lyrics in all-staff emails.
- Jeralyn Cicotta
- Heavy Lifting
Jeralyn is the backbone. She is setting up meetings with everyone under the sun, and mailing or calling everyone else. She's helped get SO MUCH done from talking to experts to figuring out running routes, all while being a stay-at-home mom caring for Matt and Jack, her twin boys with Autism, and her daughter Alyssa.
- Tom Cicotta
- Networking Powerhouse
Tom seems to know everyone, and if he doesn’t know them, he knows the guy who knows the person we need to contact. He’s personally responsible for getting essential goods & services donated that we need to make the AutismJAM happen.
- Jennie Collucci
- Wordsmith
Jennie is the copywriter. Her background in PR and Marketing is really helping make things happen. She is also wearing out her computer keyboard typing up letters, website content, and emails with various random movie quotes in them to keep us all in good spirits. Jennie and Jeralyn are sisters and Jennie is the mom of Alina, her daughter with Autism.
- Steve Collucci
- The Big Picture Guy
Steve reviews everything to make sure we’re all heading in the right direction and making sense. Plus he makes a mean post-race martini.
